Valenki — traditional Russian felt boots made of wool, worn during the winter months to keep feet warm in cold weather. They are not waterproof, so were often worn with “galoshes” or rubber overshoes to protect them from getting wet in snowy or slushy conditions. The name “valenok” (singular from “valenki”) literally means “made by felting“. Valenki come in various styles and colors and are still popular in rural areas and among those who appreciate traditional Russian attire.
