Our cats and dogs give us so much love — and, it seems, an equal amount of pet hair, all over our clothes and all over the house. So, appropriate for a day after spending the weekend with our pets, here are our tips on how to get pet hair off of clothes and furniture.

After all, even when your pets are clean — meaning their fur is, theoretically, also clean — it’s still embarrassing to be caught with cat hair on your blazer at work or have guests sit on your dog hair-accented couch.

What are your favorite solutions for removing pet hair, readers?

Today we’re rounding up five products that quickly and easily get rid of pet hair — one of my own recs, and four others from a great housecleaning Facebook group I’m in.

How to Get Pet Hair Off of Clothes and Furniture

These five products are the best for getting rid of pet hair — on you, and in your house! For clothing, it’s important to note that some dry cleaners charge extra for removing pet hair, so you might want to use a lint roller at home first (see below!).

Lilly Brush Mini Pet Hair Detailer

The Lilly Brush Mini Pet Hair Detailer is small, but it can do a lot. Use this rubber scraper to get pet hair and lint off of clothes, carpeting, your car interior, and beyond. It’s also recommended for cleaning off cat trees. When you’re finished using it on a surface, the fur will be easy to vacuum.

The company recommends this product for households with pets who have “medium to coarse & wiry hair of any length” but notes that it doesn’t work as well with “fine, long, and clingy hair typically found in the undercoats of medium to long-haired dogs and long-haired specialty cat breeds.” The product page lists many breeds whose fur is a good match for the scraper.

The mini pet hair cleaner is under $15 at Amazon.

Scotch-Brite Lint Rollers

Scotch-Brite Lint Rollers are my favorite lint rollers for pet hair.

The single sheets tear off easily and are sticky enough to easily remove fur from clothes and furniture. The hole in the handle is handy, too — one of our rollers hangs at the top of the basement stairs. (We also keep one in our bedroom for clothes, and I always have one in my car.)

Each roll has 95 sheets, so you won’t be switching them out all the time, and a five-pack like this will last forever.

Scotch-Brite also makes a special pet hair version of their rollers, but I haven’t had a reason to try them instead. Speaking of alternatives, when you don’t have a roller handy, grab some packing tape or a shipping label sleeve — and for furniture, a damp rubber glove.

A five-pack of rollers is under $20 at Amazon.

FurZapper Pet Hair Remover

The FurZapper Pet Hair Remover is a great solution for clothing that attracts pet hair, and it creates a lot less waste than pet hair dryer sheets. When you place one in your washer with a load of laundry, it gathers fur and lint to be rinsed away, and tossing one in your dryer will help transfer fur and lint to the lint trap.

The company advises against using fabric softener or dryer sheets at the same time, because the FurZappers won’t be as sticky (and those aren’t great for laundry anyway).

A pack of two FurZappers, which are made in the USA, is under $15 at Amazon.

FURemover Original Rubber Broom with Squeegee

The FURemover Original Rubber Broom is a nice alternative for cleaning up when you don’t feel like getting out the big vacuum. Its rubber bristles pick up pet hair from carpets, hardwood, etc., and the squeegee edge is designed for windows, shower walls, and other hard surfaces — for liquid spills and more.

The broom handle extends from 3 to 5 feet, and the head is removable to make storage easier. To clean the broom, the company recommends soap and water.

This pet hair broom is under $15 at Amazon. (There are a couple of other models available on the same product page.)

ChomChom Roller Pet Hair Remover

The ChomChom Roller Pet Hair Remover is designed to remove pet hair from furniture, rugs, pet beds, cat trees, and car mats and car seats. This roller doesn’t use any sticky sheets to create waste.

When you roll the ChomChom back and forth on a surface, it will collect pet hair and lint using static electricity. When you’re done, press the release button to empty the fur into the trash.

The ChomChom Roller is under $20 at Amazon, where it’s become the #1 cat hair removal product and #1 dog hair removal product.
