There is something about summer that has me doing a complete audit of my makeup kit in the quest to create a summer makeup look that stays on all day. I want it to be fresh, effortless and glowy and I don’t want to have to reapply everything because it’s slid off my face by mid-morning.
This look features products I’ve talked about before, including plenty of Trinny London products. You can play catch up with previous Trinny London makeup posts HERE.
It also includes other brands, things I’ve found by accident – by playing – or via recommendations I’ve checked out.
The key thing to note about my everyday makeup look is that I’m not trying to cover everything up. I want my skin to be seen under my makeup. Every product I use is cream-based – a major shift I made in recent years. It suits and feels better on my menopausal skin.
Speaking of skin. Tempting as it might be to spend money on new makeup, I feel it’s best to look at your skincare regime first. If you’re not happy with how your skin is looking then that would be my starting point. Here’s a look at my skincare routine. I’ve made some slight changes to the serums used (Vitamin C in the morning; and this one at night) but otherwise it’s still the same. I’ll do a full and thorough update soon. In short, my advice remains the same … tread softly with active ingredients, too much hydration is never enough and enlist the help of a skin therapist who will treat your individual skin, not just do cookie-cutter treatments.
My summer makeup look below is one that I’ve been popping on to make me feel a little fresh to face the day ahead. It’s also one that I’ve worn for casual summer catch-ups. For photoshoots and events, I call on the expertise of my hair and makeup artist, Dale Dorning. I’m going to be doing a more made-up look tutorial with Dale in the coming months so stay tuned. He really is a genius and has years and years of celebrity work under his belt. I’m lucky to have him! Oh the stories he could tell. For me, he understands a mature skin and how to bring out the best for whatever the photo or video shoot.
Have a watch and a listen below. I share answers to your questions as well as a quick look at the products I’m using for this summer makeup look that stays put.

The key change to this look from previous looks I’ve shared is the foundation. I talk about my foundation “journey” HERE. There are a couple mentioned in that post that are the perfect for full coverage (which I look to for events and photoshoots) but I was still searching for the holy grail everyday medium coverage but long-lasting formula.
Then I listened to this You Beauty podcast. When Leigh Campbell nominated Estee Lauder Double Wear Sheer Long-Wear Makeup as one of her top products for 2021 I added to cart immediately and it’s rarely been off my face since. As always, if you’re happy with the foundation product you already use, no need to change things up. Just remember our skin does change over time and what served us five years ago might not work now.
