S’more is a classic American treat consisting of a roasted marshmallow and a piece of chocolate, sandwiched between two Graham crackers. The combination results in a sweet and crunchy snack that is often enjoyed around campfires.
S’more was first published as a recipe in a 1927 Girl Scouts handbook called “Tramping and Trailing with the Girl Scouts.” Over time, the name was shortened to “s’more”, a contraction of “some more”, which reflects the common reaction to this delightful treat—people always want some more.
To make s’more you will need just three ingredients:
Graham crackers
Marshmallows
Chocolate bars
Break a Graham cracker in half to make two squares, place a piece of chocolate on one of the squares. Roast the marshmallow by skewering it on a stick or roasting fork and holding it over a campfire or heat source until it becomes golden brown and soft. The level of roasting is a personal preference, ranging from lightly toasted to charred. Then place the roasted marshmallow on top of the chocolate piece, top it with the other Graham cracker square, creating a sandwich. Press down slightly to melt the chocolate and spread the marshmallow.
S’mores have become an iconic part of American camping culture, symbolizing the joy of outdoor adventures and shared experiences around a fire. They are particularly popular during summer months and are a staple at camping trips, backyard fire pits, and scout gatherings.
