I want to start this article by saying that I do not advise buying into every single beauty trend. Yes, I like to write about them and fill you in on the most popular nail colours, hair colours and makeup styles of the season, but that doesn’t mean that I think you need to try these things in order to feel good. Instead, I truly believe in doing what suits you, and wearing whatever nail polish, lipstick or hair accessory you want (or not wearing any of those things, for that matter). Having said that, as a team of fashion and beauty editors, a lot of us have strong opinion on trends, both past and present, as we are constantly keeping our eyes out for the next big thing. Because of this, I was interested to learn what the team thought about this season’s most popular nail colours, and what nail colours they think we shouldn’t be bringing into 2024.
As it turns out, there were quite a few nail shades that individual Who What Wear UK editors felt had become a little “dated”. As I said above, that’s not to say that you can’t wear the nail colours below, but if you are interested in what shades we won’t be wearing this year (and what we will be swapping them for, instead), then keep on scrolling…
Remember the days when Essie’s Mint Candy Apple was the nail polish to wear? Everyone was obsessed with these bright, mint green shades, and I can totally see why. However, as a team, we were all in agreement that this colour feels a little dated, and this spring we’ll be swapping pastel greens for sky blue shades.
If you’ve read our guide to the biggest spring and summer fashion trends of 2024, then you’ll know that sky blue is set to be huge this year, so why not get one step ahead and opt for this pretty, pastel mani?
How stunning is this sky blue shade from Nailberry? I can’t wait to wear this in spring.
For a more affordable option, you can’t go wrong with Pillow Talk from Rimmel.
According to the team, frosted pink nails are out, but don’t fear, as we’ve got the perfect alternative. Say hello to baby pink. This timeless shade will never go out of style, and thanks to the soft hue, it’s sure to compliment any outfit.
If you want something a bit more fun, why not opt for baby pink nail art? I love this curved design, and it looks so chic paired with a white shirt and silver jewellery.
If you want to try this trend, Dior have got you covered with the most beautiful baby pink shade.
I’m obsessed with this light pink hue from OPI.
Although 90s fashion trends are making a comeback, that doesn’t mean that we want glittery nails to return. Instead, we’re all about chic, chrome finishes to give your nails a little bit of extra sparkle.
This trend has been seen on the likes of Hailey Bieber and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, and if it’s good enough for them, then it’s definitely good enough for us. I love the fact that it’s more subtle than chunky glitter designs, as it makes it more wearable on a day to day basis.
Chrome nails can be hard to do at home, but Mylee have created these clever nail pens which give the same effect.
Essie have also created a chrome top coat for an easy way to get the look.
I used to wear white nails every single summer, but this year, I’m going to be wearing white French tips. All of us agree that French tips are back in a big way for 2024, as they perfectly fit with that elevated, ‘clean girl’ aesthetic.
I mean, just look at how stunning this manicure is? This trend is perfect for all of the minimalists out there.
Use this nail stamper to get a clean French tip at home.
Or why not treat yourself to the whole French manicure kit to get that ‘just left the salon’ look?
The team agree, neon shades are out this summer. Instead of making a statement with our manicures, we’ll be opting for neutral hues instead. If quiet luxury is your thing, then definitely take note.
The key to this trend is to make your nails look as healthy and glossy as possible, and opt for a neutral shade that perfectly compliments your skin tone.
I love this creamy nude shade for all year round.
This kit has everything you need to keep your nails looking natural and healthy, including a nail strengthener and a cuticle oil.
