Stepping out over the weekend, Sofia Richie Grainge dispelled what some might call a long-running fashion “sin” whilst tapping into some rising trends in the process.

Styling an elegant tonal look, Richie Grainge opted for a warm brown coat in a thick wool fabric which she wore with brown leather trousers in a slightly deeper shade. Whilst a tonal pairing won’t cause alarm, it was the choice of accessories that will could evoke some tutting from particular circles (not ones we’d like to be a part of!). Layering her brown outfit with black accessories Richie Grainge rejected the age-old fashion rule of wearing black and brown together, proving that these two neutral shades do in fact compliment one another.

The dated fashion rule forbids the pairings of these two dark shades, but neglects to understand that this overlooked pairing is an elegant base for winter styling. Ideal for layering with light creams or golds, the two colours work together to bring depth and warmth to an outfit, that can be layered with lighter colours for extra dimension.

On Sofia Richie Grainge: The Row Polli Double-Breasted Wool and Cashmere-Blend Coat (£1885), Bottega Veneta Medium Solstice Shoulder Bag (£3140). Styling the colour pairing, Richie Grainge opted for a short peacoat from The Row to pair with her brown leather trousers. The chocolate-brown colour trend has been on the rise this season, for its expensive looking and easy-to style qualities. Completing her weekend outfit, the style icon opted for black kitten heel boots, a black Solstice Shoulder Bag from Bottega Veneta and large gold earrings. This short wool coat is ideal for transeasonal styling.

Trust me, ever wardrobe should start with a classic black knit.

The brown colour trend has been on the rise this season, and isn’t showing signs of slowing down.

Kitten heels boots are the chicest way to insulated from the cold this winter.

Whilst the black version of the chic bag is out of stock, the olive green is a personal favourite (and also looks great with brown and black).

When in doubt, gold hoops are always a good idea.

This chic wool coat falls on the larger side, so consider opting for a size down.

This rich brown shade looks amazing with gold jewellery.

A belted coat is my only hope for staying warm on biting January days.

A structured blazer is the key to elevating casual winter outfits.
