Pepper X, known for its intense heat, is a chili pepper variety that has captured the attention of spice enthusiasts worldwide. It was created by Ed Currie from South Carolina, USA. Ed Currie, a dedicated pepper breeder and enthusiast, developed Pepper X by crossbreeding various chili peppers to achieve an unprecedented level of spiciness.
Pepper X officially entered the spotlight in 2017, when it was recognized as one of the hottest peppers globally. It surpassed the previous record holder, the Carolina Reaper, which had held the title of the world’s hottest pepper. According to the Guinness World Records, Pepper X can reach an astounding 3.18 million Scoville Heat Units (SHU), compared to the Carolina Reaper’s 2.2 million SHU. This extreme heat makes Pepper X a formidable contender in the world of hot peppers. For a comparison, Bell Pepper has 0 SHU and regular Jalapeño pepper is has 2,500 to 8,000 SHU (yes, thousands, not even a million).
