As a beauty editor, I am lucky enough to hear about lots of new skincare launches and TikTok-viral products on a daily basis. However, if I’m being totally honest, it’s rare that I am blown away by a product enough to write an entire article about it. That was until I came across the viral Peter Thomas Roth eye cream. If you’re yet to see this eye cream on your TikTok or Instagram feed, then prepare to be amazed at its skin-tightening effects.
The product itself is called the Peter Thomas Roth Instant Firm X Temporary Eye Tightener, and it does exactly what it says on the tin. Instead of just being an eye cream that focuses on long-term results, this clever product also delivers instant skin-tightening effects to firm and smooth the under-eye area. I’m not lying when I say I’ve spent all morning watching the before and after videos on TikTok and I can’t get over the results. It’s like Botox in a bottle.
Because of my job, I always like to delve a bit deeper when a product catches my attention, so if you want to know exactly how this eye cream works and why people are so obsessed with it, then keep on scrolling for all the info…
So, first things first, how on earth does this eye cream work? The formula itself contains some pretty impressive ingredients including skin-tightening silicates, seaweed extract and a powerful peptide complex which all work together to give that temporary firming effect. There is also alfalfa extract and hydrolyzed lupine protein which help to reduce the appearance of under-eye bags, to leave you with a really smooth finish.
To apply the cream to the eye area, the brand recommends cleansing your skin with a non-oily cleanser, then shaking the tube and squeezing out a pea-sized amount onto your hand. Next, using your fingertips or a makeup brush, pick up a small amount of the cream and apply it to your under-eye area. In order to see the best results, leave the product for three to five minutes to let it dry completely. If you find that there is any white residue, simply wipe this away with a damp cotton bud.
One thing I was really curious about was whether you could wear makeup over this eye cream due to the unique formula. According to the brand’s website, you can gently pat on makeup over the cream as long as the products aren’t water-based. That being said, I’ve watched a couple of TikTok videos (and read some comments) where people have said that their makeup doesn’t sit right over the product and that it can ruin the results.
Although I’m yet to try it myself, due to the formula, I would probably reach for this eye cream on no-makeup or minimal makeup days just to be on the safe side.
All in all, is the viral eye cream actually worth it? Retailing at £32, it’s not cheap, but based on the results I’ve seen, I would say it’s definitely worth it if you want to tackle fine lines or under-eye circles. I mean, the online reviews speak for themselves. One customer wrote: “This cream is just fabulous I feel 10 years younger,” while another said: “This cream is just great, it works like magic.” One thing I will note is that a lot of people have said to make sure not to apply too much of the cream, as you could end up with white residue around the eye area.
It probably goes without saying, but if you’re in the market for a general eye cream to hydrate and nourish the skin, then this definitely isn’t the right kind of product, but for those of you wanting those instant skin-tightening effects, then I recommend adding this to your basket straight away.
