The It shoes that have been gracing the feet of fashion insiders over the last two years or so can be summarised as thus: flats and flatforms. Whether it’s Prada’s loafers, Bottega’s chunky Chelseas or even the return of the Ugg, comfort and casual appeal have been the name of the game—which is unsurprising considering how much time we’ve spent on our sofas throughout 2020 and 2021. Perhaps this is why this season, the fashion crowd has embraced a heel so extreme that even devoted stiletto lovers may quail at its epic proportions.

Coming in a high-shine patent material and a rainbow of hues, Valentino’s Tan-Go platforms have well and truly captured the hearts of the fashion crowd, and within the space of a fortnight, we’ve spotted them on the likes of Emili Sindlev, Camille Charrière and Ellie Delphine. Though they’re styled with everything from jeans and maxi dresses to micro shorts, I’m not sure you can exactly describe them as versatile, but they certainly seem to be catering to a wide range of outfits and personal tastes. As always, where trendsetters go, shoppers follow, and the shoes have almost sold out on Net-a-Porter and Valentino’s own e-commerce site. We have, however, found a few pairs at Ssense and Farfetch, but we don’t imagine they’ll stick around for long. Are you brave enough to scale the perilous heights of the Valentino Tan-Go platforms? A patent pink platform gives Camille’s all-black ensemble a much-needed pop of colour.
Emili Sindlev throws a curveball by styling her platforms with a thick ribbed sock, and we kinda love it.
There’s something so elegant about a platform patent heel paired with sheer tights.
Embrace the colour clash with a pink heel and red suit. Friday-night cocktails never looked so fabulous.
