Recipe of Dalgona Candy (달고나), a nostalgic Korean treat, became globally recognized after its appearance in the TV series Squid Game. Traditionally sold by street vendors, this simple candy is made by melting sugar and adding baking soda, which creates a light, honeycomb-like texture. Often stamped with shapes, it’s both a sweet treat and a playful challenge for children trying to cut out the shape without breaking it.
Cooking Time:
10 minutes
Ingredients:
2 tbsp granulated sugar
A pinch of baking soda
Oil (for greasing the mold or spatula, optional)
Recipe:
Heat sugar in a metal ladle or small pan over low heat. Stir constantly until fully melted and amber in color.
Remove from heat and quickly stir in a pinch of baking soda. Mix vigorously — the mixture will foam and expand.
Pour onto parchment paper and press gently with a greased spatula or flat object.
Optional: Press a cookie cutter into the surface to imprint a shape, but don’t cut all the way through.
Let cool and harden. Enjoy or try to cut out the shape without breaking the candy.
