Louis Roederer is a French champagne house founded in 1776. It is known as one of the most prestigious and respected champagne producers in the world. The brand is famous for its extra-prestige cuvée Cristal and its signature style with notes of white flowers, citrus, and brioche.
Interesting fact: In 1876, Russian Tsar Alexander II commissioned Louis Roederer to create a special champagne for him. He wanted it in a transparent bottle because he feared assassination attempts — a bomb could be hidden through dark glass. Thus Cristal was born — the first champagne in history to come in a clear crystal bottle. The Tsar was so pleased that he ordered an entire batch specifically for his court. But the irony of fate: Alexander II was still assassinated five years later — not through champagne, but by a bomb on the street. And Cristal is still considered the most prestigious champagne in the world.
