Recipe of Chruściki, also known as Polish Angel Wings, a beloved traditional pastry often prepared for festive occasions like Carnival and Christmas. These delicate, crispy treats are deep-fried and dusted generously with powdered sugar, creating a light and sweet bite with a satisfying crunch.
Cooking Time:
1 hour
Ingredients:
2 cups all-purpose flour
4 egg yolks
¼ cup sour cream
1 tbsp sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tbsp vodka or rum (optional, for crispness)
½ tsp salt
Oil for deep frying (about 4 cups)
Powdered sugar, for dusting
Recipe:
In a bowl, whisk together egg yolks, sugar, sour cream, vanilla, and vodka until smooth.
Gradually mix in flour and salt to form a dough. Knead until smooth and elastic, about 5–7 minutes.
Cover and let rest for 30 minutes.
Roll out the dough very thin (about ⅛ inch). Cut into strips 1×4 inches. Make a slit in the center of each strip and pull one end through to form a twist.
Heat oil to 350°F. Fry the twists in batches until golden, about 30 seconds per side.
Drain on paper towels and cool slightly. Dust generously with powdered sugar before serving.
