I don’t know about you, but I’ve been counting down to the start of winter for one reason and one reason only—the official start of coat season. Sure, autumn expectedly brought a drastic drop in temperatures but while we eagerly bundled up in jumpers and coats, it turned out that August and September were better suited to jackets (hello, sweaty commute), and it’s only been over the last couple of months that we’ve really been able to dive into our coat collections.

So, what winter coats have we been investing in this year? Well, the chocolate brown trend has covered everything from slinky party dresses to tailored coats, and as soon as frost appears on the ground we’ll never turn down a puffer coat, but there’s one style that Brit celebs can’t get enough of, and it’s all down to one coat in particular.

Lily James wears Filippa K’s Tailored Coat in check.

We always say that one stylish spot is noteworthy, two are a coincidence but three is a certified trend, and after we saw Filippa K’s tailored maxi coat on Lily James, Alexa Chung and The Crown’s Claire Foy we knew we had bestseller in the making on our hands.

Alexa Chung also wears Filippa K’s Tailored Coat in grey.

After all, this coat ticks a lot of boxes on the trend front: firstly it’s maxi length, it’s boxy, oversized fit and of course the trending shade of charcoal grey—so for those looking for a timeless coat that you know you’ll wear for years to come, consider this a very strong contender.

Claire Foy was spotted in Filippa K’s Tailored Coat in check earlier this year.

After feeling inspired by Filippa K’s Scandi approach to minimalist outerwear, I took a long look into the best long, tailored coats on the market and found some particularly good looking styles that I’m convinced will go with with everything in your wardrobe. Such a cool oversized shape.

A lighter, longline blazer style you’ll be able to wear comfortably into spring too.

I love this shade of grey.

This just looks ultra soft.

Stella McCartney has nailed this subtle check.

The perfect length, even if you’re petite.

Herringbone always looks expensive.

See what I mean?

This looks so much more expensive than it’s price tag.

A relaxed fit for those who prefer a softer silhouette.
