Interesting fact: In 1904, Brazilian aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont complained to his friend Louis Cartier that during flights it was inconvenient for him to use a pocket watch — he had to take it out of his pocket. He asked for a watch that could be worn on the wrist and would allow him to keep his hands on the controls. Louis Cartier created the world’s first men’s wristwatch — the Santos model, named after the aviator. It was a revolution: until then, wristwatches were considered exclusively a women’s accessory. Santos-Dumont wore it on all his flights, and soon celebrities lined up to get one.
