Lacoste

Lacoste is a French clothing brand founded in 1933 by tennis player René Lacoste and his partner André Gillier. It is known as one of the most recognizable sports luxury brands in the world. The brand is famous for its polo shirt with a green crocodile on the chest, which has become a symbol of elegant sporty style.

Interesting fact: René Lacoste earned the nickname “The Crocodile” from American journalists after promising his Davis Cup captain a crocodile skin suitcase if he won a match. Although he never received that suitcase, the nickname stuck. Later, a friend of Lacoste, artist Robert Georges, drew a crocodile that became the brand’s logo. By the way, René Lacoste himself was not just an athlete but also an inventor — he improved the tennis racket and created the first ball for playing on clay courts.
