*Update* Both my Levi’s below are 30% off right now! See my Levi’s jeans guide for reviews.

After my first Aritzia coat purchase last year (a gorgeous wrap that was sadly discontinued), I’ve been hooked on their outerwear and on a mission to try more styles! Their coats are tailored and feminine and come in all the good neutral colors, and the quality is comparable to brands like Reiss or Ted Baker IMO. A few things to note ~

Return policy: Aritzia has free return shipping if you’re logged into a (free) account. But note their return window for refunds is just 14 days from the shipping date. Sale items are returnable only for store credit, or final sale for items over 50% off.

Black Friday / Cyber Monday sale: Last year they had a small Cyber Week discount, and I heard this year they’ll likely be running another promo. If you have an Aritzia store near you, this is the time to try items on in advance so that you know what fits well!

Sizing: For reference, I’m 5′ tall and currently about 98lb. Aritzia in general fits slim, and is one of the few brands where I size up to a 0 instead of 00 in numerical sizing. However, for their products in letter sizing, I consistently take 2XS (XXS) and their coats are no exception.

Most of their coat sleeves are a little long on me, except they have two styles available in “Short.” This is their version of Petite, and the entire garment is scaled down and shortened proportions-wise.

Aritzia Petite Coats

I’m going to start with the 2 styles available in “Short,” their version of Petite sizing.

1. Slouch Coat

Aritzia Slouch Coat xxs short c/o, Levi’s jeans 24 x 26 “space to think”, Gentle Souls booties 5.5 (so comfy! I also own this style), Edited Pieces belt coming soon, Gap layering top xs petite

Design: see my try-on video. This one is an Aritzia customer favorite that’s been around for a few years! It has a slouchy A-line shape that feels contemporary, but also feels like a high end vintage coat that you’d find in your mom’s closet.

Fit: Runs oversized. I have on XXS Short above, the smallest size available, and it’s a generous fit with room to layer a thick sweater. I’d recommend this coat only if you love bigger and looser styles. A few reviewers mentioned sizing down.

Fabric: This comes in tons of fabric options, including a regular wool or a more drapey, unlined double-faced wool. The one I have on above is “Re-Camel wool,” the most thick and plush feeling option. It’s fully lined and actually quite warm.

2. stedman COAT

The Stedman is a more streamlined style that’s a little more slim and sleek than the Slouch.

I’m trying on the old Stedman coat below in 2XS Regular. Their Short / Petite sizes are available only in the New Stedman, which I haven’t had the chance to try and compare. I like the elongating length of the 2XS regular, but the sleeves are a little long on me. I get a lot of questions about the large label on the sleeve, and believe it’s intended to be removed after purchase (snips off pretty easily).

3. portfolio wrap coat

Over 8 years ago I fell in love with a waterfall wrap jacket style. It’s served me well, but it’s now too small and snug on me to have a cascading effect anymore. Enter: the Aritzia Portfolio wrap coat, the upgraded, luxe wool version of that little felt jacket.

Design & Fabric: See my try on video. The Portfolio wrap coat has a gorgeous draping cut and is made of double faced wool fabric. If you’re not familiar with double faced wool, it’s unlined, which helps with the flow and movement. Interestingly enough, the sleeves on this are lined. This is more of a fall or warm climate winter (ie West Coast winters) jacket, not a Boston winter weight. I love every color this comes in and had a tough time choosing a favorite.

Fit: Several reviewers also mentioned this is petite-friendly, though I’d say it’s pretty long, so only for petites who like a longer midi. It hits several inches below the knees on me, and I would cuff the sleeves up an inch or so. The collar is an oversized, wider statement collar style with drape so you can play around with the shape a bit, depending on how you fold it.

Aritzia Portfolio coat xxs, Gap mockneck xs petite, Levi’s jeans 24×27 “in the middle” wash,
Sézane flats 35 c/o (worn with heel lifts), Madewell belt xxs

I’ve been wearing these Sezane Matilda suede flats non-stop – the deeper V front cut is so vintage-inspired chic! The leopard print I had originally lusted after also just came back in stock.

These flats run a little big in my opinion, since I’m usually between 5 to 5.5 in other brands and the Matilda 5 is a touch loose on me. They’re well cushioned with a comfy low stacked heel for a little height boost, however the top of the sides hit my ankles. This is an issue I run into a LOT due to my lower set ankles, but is an easy fix thanks to the heel lifts I keep on hand.

4. Constant coat

See my try-on video. The Constant coat is another Aritzia core style that comes back every year in different materials and colors. I personally LOVE the menswear-inspired tailored look. I’ve tried it on at least 3 times in the past year and am on the fence about this being too big and long for me to pull off

Like many of Aritzia’s coat styles, the Constant comes in a variety of wool fabric options, and I’ve found that the coat will fit a little differently depending on the material choice.

The wool cashmere (pictured below) is a thicker, plush feeling material that is heavier weight than their regular wool. This material makes the coat feel a little bigger on a petite frame, but is extra warm. The merino or lighter weight wool Constant coats are less thick and feel a tad more sleek. Since this coat has a deeper V neckline, you’ll want a scarf for cold weather!

Which was your favorite? Are there any more coat styles in Short / Petite sizing that I missed? Will try to cover in Part 2!
